COVID-19 INTERVENTION: OHAFIA STUDENTS GRADUATES 45 YOUTHS FROM SKILLS ACQUISITION PROGRAM, CALLS FOR SUPPORT
The National Association of Ohafia Students Worldwide ably led by Comr. Idika Michael has concluded the second phase 30 days skill acquisition program.
The training which held from June 17th - July 26th 2020 registered 89 participants while certifying 45 youths in various skill including Computer (Information Technology), Decoration (Event Management), Creative Writing and Presentation and Music.
The President General of the students Union, Comr. Idika Michael in his speech said that the training was held to cussion the negative effect of Covid-19 on the Youths, therefore utilizing the period to impact vocational skills that will produce economic competent youths in the society.
He also explained that education and training are keys to success in the workforce. However, unfortunately, existing systems are failing to address the learning needs of many young people. Therefore, through this initiative, the Students Union aims to close this gap in the local context.
Recall that the students union in their first Covid-19 community intervention program created awareness in various communities and produced face mask to help old people for safety. The union also went further to commense first ever skill acquisition program which was first done at Isiama ward with 55 youths being certified after 3 months training.
While thanking sponsors of the training, Comr. Idika Michael appreciated the effort of Chief Barr. Dr. Okwun Ojah for his outstanding support through the training and the Eze of the host community, Akanu, Ezieogo Mba Odo Okereke for being there for them all.
Comr. Michael added that the students union will keep on working with trainers and community stakeholders to take the training to every other ward in Ohafia LGA. He also called on the private sector and individuals to support the union in building a sustainable framework for empowering young people across the nation to be financially independent”.
